Looking Back at 2021

Oh, 2021… what a challenging year you were!

Personally, you were very challenging in many ways. We struggled with the continued chaos of the pandemic and its impact on our lives. Hybrid learning was a blessing and a curse for our daughter as it meant we got to spend more time together, but our typical schedule was tossed in a blender. Our hearts continued to ache after the abrupt loss of our beloved Digby in October 2020. Not hearing his footsteps or feeling his kisses… his absence was noticeable.

The year was not without its highlights. We spent another summer at camp on Long Lake in Bridgton, Maine, and enjoyed kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, and boating around together making memories. We formed new friendships with others in the area and shared many laughs and campfires together. The end of 2021 also brought a new rescue puppy from Georgia our way in November. It took our hearts a long time to be able to welcome him into our home, but we are thrilled to have the puppy cuddles back. I’ll share more about him later!

Professionally, my heart hurt for those couples who continued to have their plans disrupted. From a venue closing for the year sending two couples looking for a new location mere months before their events to other couples needing to shift their date to 2022… it was the most challenging year I have faced since I started photographing weddings in 2008.

Yet, through all of the chaos, I am so incredibly thankful for all of the couples I had the opportunity to work with this year. Amelia & Tyler, Alex & Max, Ben & Whitney, Kari & Tyler, Erica & Jim, Ellen & Ali, Skylar & Jordan, and Jenna & Ryan plus the “M” family, “K” family”, and “P” family… my heart is full from my time with all of you. Working with you this year helped me create many of my favorite photographs that I have ever taken.

So, to put a capstone on 2021, here is a look back at some of the memories we captured together.

Thank you to everyone who came to me to capture the 2021 chapter of their life together. I am already looking forward to the magic that 2022 has in store. May it be filled with more rainbows than rainstorms.
